The Popdust Files: 50 cent, feuds, Interscope, Jimmy Iovine
When he’s not writing books for the children, 50 Cent has been keeping busy in the music world by releasing free mixtapes and new videos to the delight of his fans. Most recent creation, “Put Your Hands Up,” off The Big 10, has seen over three million views since its release earlier this week, which is worthy of an additional pat on the back given it’s the holidays, and some of us aren’t glued to our computer screens. 50 is happy and all, but seems to be stewing over his current contract negotiations with Interscope Records, the label that first signed him in 2002. According to his initial contract, 50 is obligated to record five albums with the label, the last of which has a planned 2012 release. Still, the impending uncertainty of whether or not he’ll resign—and his reported disapproval about how his fifth album is being promoted—with Interscope is getting to him. He expressed frustrations and directed some grievances towards his Interscope boss via Twitter:
Hear that, interested parties? Young and hungry. We understand the holidays can be tough, 50. Just don’t get to bullying Mr. Iovine and hopefully all will work itself out. And if not, there are always morning show positions up for grabs.
