2 Chainz Delivers During His First New York City Headlining Show

Expectations were high, but Atlanta spitter 2 Chainz made sure to deliver during his first New York City headlining show at S.O.B.’s on Monday (January 30).

Rocking True Religion from head-to-toe, Chainz strolled onto the dim stage with a styrofoam Dunkin’ Donuts cup in hand and went right into street bangers like “Got One,” “Turn Up” and “Spend It,” off his T.R.U. REALigion mixtape,

He also rocked out to verses he’s dropped on official releases before the overly-excited full-house, including his joint on Young Jeezy’s new single “SupaFreak” and “Duffle Bag Boy,” the latter from his days as one half of  rap duo Playaz Circle, which he was a part of when he was signed to Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace, a label he recently confirmed to XXLMag.com he isn’t with anymore.

And while the show’s flyer advertised 2 Chainz would bring out “special surprise guests,” the only fellow artist that joined him on stage was Raekwon, who didn’t perform but did express his admiration for the rhymesliner.

“I’m so proud of you, my nigga,” Rae said. “Because, y’all don’t even know. I know a nigga from another side, but I always believed in his skill. And, I want you to know, nigga, you good in the town, nigga. You good, nigga. They love you, nigga.”

The show’s opening acts’ performances were also lively. Budding Brooklyn artist Phreshy Duzit showcased three records off his upcoming project, Brave New World. What’s more, Neako and Marcus Manchild performed and successfully warmed up the crowd for 2 Chainz. Manchild had some help, bringing out fellow Texans Slim Thug and Paul Wall for a performance of “Still Tippin,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy. —Christopher Minaya (@CM_3)
