The Popdust Files: in the studio, jay-z, timbaland, twitter
The Timbaland and Jay-Z duo has been one of hip-hop’s richest every-now-and-then partnerships over the last 15 years, resulting in classic singles like “Big Pimpin’” and “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” as well as underrated album tracks like “Hola Hovito” and “A Reminder.” We saw some footage of the pair at work already when a viral video of Timbaland playing Jay-Z the “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” beat for the first time circulated a little while ago, and now we have a first-person testimony of the creative give-and-take between producer and rapper via Timbo’s Twitter account.
Over the course of the last half-hour or so, Timothy has regaled his followers with the tale of the Jiggaman showing off for the knob-twiddler one day in the studio back when Timbo was working on his Indecent Proposal album with rap partner Magoo. It’s worth a read for sure, and at the end, if you haven’t seen that “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” video yet…well, you know what to do.
Well, we certainly can’t wait for the JT stories now. And who knows what master of their craft will be after that? Petey Pablo? Bobby Valentino? Ashlee Simpson???
