[SOHH highlights a hot record each week and offers a unique look at the track in Singled Out. After Planet Asia dissected his new "F*ck Rappers" record, Jerry Wonda breaks down Akon and French Montana's "Hurt Somebody" record.]
“Hurt Somebody” was a special track. I was working on the Mary J. Blige album and the concept of the album was, “Jerry, I would like you and other people to come to the studio and cook beats.” With me and Swizz Beatz, we’re really. That’s one of my best friends.
We cooked the beat and Akon came in and heard that track. He was like, “Man, that’s it. That record right there is crazy!” That’s how the whole thing started. Then we finished recording with Akon and French Montana was down in Miami and said he had to get on the record.
I remember him saying it was a movie. We actually called “Hurt Somebody” “A Movie” because that’s what it was. The original name was “A Movie.” That’s how French jumped on it and Akon and French Montana bodied the record and that’s that.
Me and French are close friends. He always hangs out and comes to check for me in the lab.
