“Champion”: Nicki Minaj Has a Bunch of Famous People Over for a Rap Song

The Popdust Files: champion, new songs, nicki minaj, Roman Reloaded
Good to know people who know people. “Champion” isn’t going to be end up as one of the more noteworthy or famous songs on Nicki Minaj’s upcoming Roman Reloaded album—the beat’s a little too abstract, the verses a little too down-beat (Nicki talks about her dead cousin, Jeezy references the “crib in the sky”)—but it still features three rappers who were among the biggest MCs in the game during their respective peaks in the last 20 years. Drake, Young Jeezy and Nas all get a turn on the mic, with the Snowman arguably stealing the show with his “Straight ballin’ in this bitch, Jeremy Lin” couplet. Has it really taken this long for a marquee rapper to reference the Harvard Hitman in song? Jeez.
Pretty good song. Roman Reloaded out next Tuesday, you know. By our count, there might still be like two tracks that haven’t leaked yet.
