Remember that whole controversy from a couple days ago where that weirdo Mary J. Blige commercial where she looks crazy and sings about chicken wrap ingredients got pulled from YouTube? Turns out, the fact that the commercial was surreal and awful and everyone hated it (except us) and the fact that it is no longer easily viewed on the internet is not a coincidence. TMZ reports that the queen of hip-hop soul was very upset about the commercial, having been misled about its content. Quoth MJB:
I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out…I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. Well, “unfinished” certainly sounds about right for this commercial. Still, it’s hard to imagine how the “finished” product of this commercial would be at all an improvement—does throwing this ad in a “dream sequence” context really change anything? Is Mary hanging out all day in the back of a Burger King lest someone give her a chance to sing about Chicken Wrap ingredients really supposed to smack of verisimilitude? Anyway, perhaps sensing an overall backlash, Burger King humored their star singer with an apology for so deceiving her. Sez BK via statement:
Unfortunately, the Mary J. Blige commercial was released prematurely before all of the licensing and final approvals were obtained…We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final. We know how important Mary J. is to her fans, and we are currently in the process of finalizing the commercial. We hope to have the final ad on the air soon.
Can’t wait. Hopefully this version will have an explosion or two in it as well. Anything goes in fast food commercial dream sequences.
