Good thing that country duets album Tuskegee is doing so well, huh? We wouldn’t expect Lionel Richie to need the help, what with the 100 million records sold worldwide and the upcoming TV starring roles and whatnot, but April 15th (17th this year, actually—15th is a Sunday) is a day of reckoning for all of us, and now E! is reporting that Lionel in fact has a formidable debt owed to the I.R.S.—$ 1.1 million to be specific, a sum leftover from unpaid taxes in 2010. Puts your underwhelming tax return dollar amount into perspective, huh?
We figured the ex-Commodore probably spent about that much annually on somebody who’d take care of this stuff for him while he plotted his latest world-conquering musical venture and went shopping for artisinal scarves, so hopefully this is just some kind of miscommunication that can be easily cleared up. If not, at least he and Ja Rule will have something to talk about while in the studio for Lionel’s inevitable hip-hop duets album, Dirty South.
