Took ‘em long enough. Fans of The Voice were perplexed last night to hear Christina Aguilera utter the name of Jesse Campbell when announcing her selection for insta-elimination, when he seemed like one of the strongest voices in the competition. Was he too one-dimensional? Too limited? Too old? Well, we have another theory from eliminated voice contestant Nathan Parrett—the season’s first openly gay singer, who lost out to theater-guy Pip in a duel over Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” in the battle rounds. He took to Twitter to vent his frustrations about last night’s episode, and while he was bummed about Jordis getting the boot, he had his reasons for why Jesse might’ve had to go:
Of course, the usual caveats about ex-contestants apply—never know what their true motivations are, maybe some bitterness there, etc.—but it would present part of a possible explanation to one of the show’s bigger mysteries. For what it’s worth, Parrett had mostly nice things to say when answering questions about fellow contestants in the same Twitter splurge, including Chris Mann (“great, funny, witty, smart”), Tony Lucca (“Great chill guy…a pretty fascinating guy”) and Jordis (“In my top 5. Was hoping she took the whole thing.”). You wanna guest on next week’s Ten Things, Nathan?
In the meantime, lets all enjoy this version of “Somebody That I Used to Know,” couresty of our late friends the Shields Brothers:
