“I Realize that [He] Picks The Beats That I Don’t Necessarily Expect Him To Pick…”

I was chillin’ with my partner Jimmy Boi just making beats and I started f*ckin’ with the Mark Morrison “Return of the Mack” acapella. I chopped that song up, because I didn’t really want the musical elements … I wanted the voice, his adlibs and things of that nature.

I just kept f*ckin’ with it: layed some keys over the acapella, laid a drum loop and a bassline under it and sent it off as a rough draft with a bunch of other tracks. I never expected Trae to pick that beat. It was just a track I threw in there; Trae likes hard beats so I sent him a bunch of hard stuff and a couple other ones, just in case.

Now I realize that Trae picks the beats that I don’t necessarily expect him to pick. He got it the day it was made but it was about 8 or 9 months later before I found out he was gonna use it. Hearing the original with [Wiz, Big Boi, Lupe, Wale and MDMA] was real dope, man. I’m a big fan of Trae and all of those guys … I’m a fan of music — been buying it since cassettes — so hearing these guys on my production was definitely a dope feeling.

I found out there was gonna be another version a little after the first one dropped on the Street King album. The video for “I’m On 2.0″ is coming soon. From a production aspect, I like the “2.0″ version better because that was a full production, whereas part one was pretty much a loop. But I trust the big homie Trae’s vision on how he wanted it to come out.

Picking a favorite verse on either version is hard to choose. All these guys brought their A-game to the table. Sometimes on a feature, artists don’t really go all the way in … but all these guys did. Even Wiz, and he was in London doing his thing but still dropped a dope verse. Cats like Gudda, Tyga, KRIT – everybody did their thing on that sh*t.

Now I’m just working, man. I’ve been working with alotta the guys that were on the “I’m On” track on their music now. I’m still gonna be working with Trae on things he has doing with his music and with his artists. Just a lot of random stuff.

Check out the Cy Fyre produced track, “I’m On 2.0″ from Trae tha Truth featuring Kendrick Lamar, B.O.B, Gudda Gudda, Bun B, Big Krit, J. Cole, Tyga, and Jadakiss below:
