The Popdust Files: cee lo green, purrfect the cat, the voice, wtf
At last, Cee Lo Green has ascended to the tier of Conan O’Brien and Rachael Ray. No, not by presiding over empires of product tie-ins–though Cee Lo’s well on his way to that, too–but by getting Internet artist/memesmith Jason Baalman to make a Cheetos sculpture of him and his (also rather memetic) The Voice cat buddy, Purrfect.
Why does this exist? Well, yesterday was Cee Lo’s 38th birthday, and the Cheetos company decided it’d do a little cross-promotional celebration by commissioning this 3×4 portrait, which took 34 bags of various flavors of snack and 42 hours of gluing time, and commissioning another one for a Facebook fan contest below. See the results below (plus the Conan and Rachael Ray counterparts), and think on this–even if this is a pretty blatant viral ad, it does look kind of cool. And you know it’s going to last a long time, because there is no way those Cheetos qualify as biodegradable. Even after other artists’ paintings have decayed and wax statues have disintegrated, when their albums have become useless plastic and their digital files deleted, Cee Lo’s cheesy stare will remain.
