The Popdust Files: snoop dogg, the voice
Let it never be said that Snoop Dogg didn’t have wisdom to drop on all facets of this here popular music game. You wouldn’t expect too many middle-aged rappers to have opinions about the varying tiers of music reality shows, but that’s just the kind of renaissance dogg that Snoop is. He recently weighed in on arguably the current belt-wearer of the music reality circuit, NBC’s The Voice, to the Daily Mail, addressing the flaws in the show’s star-generating system:
The Voice don’t understand that you need more than a voice to be an artist. You could have the best voice ever, but be as boring as hell…I don’t see it producing a One Direction or Susan Boyle. Simon Cowell knows how to put a show together.
True story, and a major problem for a Best Voice Ever But Boring As Hell singer like most recent winner Jermaine Paul. Snoop has a proposed solution: His own music reality competition. The Doggfather explains:
I think I need to make a show like that, directed straight to the hood…To the artists that don’t get the attention, that don’t have the money to make themselves representable. This raw talent and ability…I’m looking for a deal from one of you TV networks to give Snoop Dogg his own hood TV show where I can find America’s hottest hood artists.
Sounds good to us. You could ever call it American’s Next Hottest Hood Artist, and we’d be down. Snoop would be host and mentor, and the judges would be Birdman, Ciara, French Montana and Coolio. The sexual chemistry between Coolio and Ciara would be absolutely scintillating.
