The Popdust Files: charts, dvd, john mayer, one direction, up all night
More records for the boys of One Direction, who are doing a good job at living up to the hype that comes with being the first British group to ever debut at No. 1 in the United States. The group’s Up All Night tour DVD hit No. 1 on the Billboard DVD charts in 25 countries this week—quick, can you name 25 countries in 25 seconds?—outselling every top album on the respective music charts. We hope they’ve cleared some room on their trophy shelf! The achievement is the first time a DVD has moved more units than the week’s chart-topping album, as 1D bested John Mayer’s Born and Raised. The kids just won’t let up on poor Johnny these days! It’s also further proof that we should stop joking about the group selling tour tickets more than a year in advance, considering the outrageous demand and such insane fan reactions.
One Direction continues their current North American tour with fellow X Factor alum, Olly Murs, before wrapping up the road trip on July 1. Then it’s onto finishing that second album that’s already in the works, performing to a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in December and potentially starring in their own 3D movie in 2013. So basically don’t expect to stop hearing about these five anytime soon.
