Christina Aguilera To Keep Moving Like Jagger

Remember when Christina Aguilera’s album was supposed to be a turbulent, Adele-like affair? Well, it could still do that. It’ll just do that with the help of a lot of studio gloss and momentum from the moves Jagger.

Here are the details on her upcoming single, as reported by Billboard:

- Early August release date. Fair. Aguilera has to have done something during her NBC downtime despite alienating showmates.

- Produced by Max Martin. Normally this wouldn’t be too noteworthy; a Max Martin comeback single is a phase in every pop star’s career, as reliable as the dark album or the MJ/Madonna homage. P!nk did it. Kelly Clarkson did it. Britney did it. Katy Perry torpedoed her whole false-start career with it.

One song from Max Martin’s cumulative smorgasbord, however, is “Moves Like Jagger.” That did so much for Maroon 5–so much that Hands All Over hadn’t–that for follow-up album Overexposed they did away with any rock songs not insulated by Swedish production, with results so far including two Top 10 hits and an album sales boost.

Christina Aguilera had a verse on “Jagger” too–a verse the length of a haiku or perhaps a limerick, but a verse nevertheless. She also had an album that’s more or less the equivalent of Hands All Over. Who’s to say it can’t work for her?

(The other interesting thing about this, depending on how much continued credence you lend decades-old feuds, is that Max Martin both launched and repaired Britney’s career while doing nothing for Aguilera back in the day. Seriously. We had to fact-check that, but nope–her first album was mostly written by bubblegum-pop writing flotillas, then from there on it was Scott Storch, Linda Perry and Kara DioGuardi. We won’t say how much credence we lend that feud; we’ll just call it interesting and leave it there and pretend that doing this doesn’t give away our opinion completely.)

- The chorus apparently revolves around this line: “All I want to do is what you wanted.” The past tense changes everything. (Specifically, it changes everything from gross to complicated. Complicated is good! Certainly better than the alternative.)

- The album’s said to complete the slate of Voice collaborations: another Cee-Lo track (after “Nasty”) and something with Blake Shelton. Honestly, the former sounds more promising–Aguilera’s better suited to going retro than to going country–but tie-ins are tie-ins.
