2013 Chevy Camaro 1LE: 426 Horsepower, 1G Cornering, Under $40,000

Fans of handling and the Chevy Camaro who can’t afford / don’t want to wait for a Zl1 now have a new factory option carrying the uber sexy name “1LE.”

The 1LE pack will be available on 2013 Camaro SS models with a manual transmission and include technologies that started out on the ZL1. The 1LE ditches the standard car’s twin-tube rear dampers for monotube jobs, 27-mm solid front stabilizer bar and 28-mm rear bar, higher capacity rear-axle half shafts, strut tower brace, ZL1-based 20-inch wheels wrapped in 285/35ZR20 Goodyear Eagle Supercar G:2 tires, Zl1 wheel bearings and ZL1 fuel pump. The Camaro 1LE also gets a Tremec TR6060-MM6 transmission instead of the TR6060-M10. The transmission features air-to-liquid cooling. GM says that the new aero kit improves handling by reducing lift at speed and that the upgrades preserved much of the Camaro SS’s ride quality.

Beyond that, this Camaro — like all Camaros in 2013 — will feature electric power steering. Any Camaro with an LS3 V8 will be available with dual-mode exhaust starting in 2013 as well.

The 1LE goes on sale this fall.
