U.S. fans of Formula One racing have a lot to look forward to in 2013. First there was the announcement that Foruma One would be racing in Texas — assuming Circuit of the Americas can get their act together and build an F1-suitable facility by then. And then, in October of last year, we got official confirmation that Formula One would be coming to a destination people actually want to visit: New York. Fine, the race is actually in New Jersey on the banks of the Hudson.
Now, however, F1 honcho Bernie Ecclestone is casting doubt on the 2013 New Jersey race. “Maybe the New York race will be in 2013. It’s a when. 2013 or 2014,” Ecclestone told the BBC.
The New Jersey Grand Prix (which still sounds awkward) will be a street course unlike Austin so there’s no track to build per se and construction of the main pit area has already begin. No word on what the holdup might be, but we’ll be following this one closely.
