Porsche 918 Spyder Prototype Revealed, Deliveries Start in 2013

When we first got spy shots of the Porsche 918 Coupe last week, we were thrown by the faux racecar livery applied just too well to the car. It wouldn’t have been the first time a manufacturer has thrown racecar paint on a prototype to throw photographers, but this one was a little too….nice. And now we know why….

Turns out Porsche, like Cadillac and Mercedes before them, wanted to control the flow of information and provide their own pre-production shots of the 918. (Previously Porsche has given first rides in heavily camouflaged Boxster and 918 prototypes.)

Along with official images, Porsche announced that the the first customers will receive their $ 845,000, 770+ horsepower 918 “before 2013 is out.” Power for the plug-in hybrid supercar comes from a 4.0-liter V8 and two electric motors.
