Hands free driving. Distracted Driving. Bluetooth. You know the drill by now: Driving a car while playing with a gadget is dangerous; nobody wants to put down their gadget.
While that’s bad for road safety, it’s pretty good for mobile device makers that people are so thoroughly addicted. Helping this addition — and perhaps helping roadway safety– is apple with a new patent for a steering-wheel-mounted control for iOS devices. Everybody who’s ever looked at an Apple product should be familiar with this layout: center button, four-way control.
Apple’s device clamps to the steering wheel and allows control of song, playlist, internet radio station etc without having to remove your hands from the wheel. This is, of course, redundant for cars that already have such systems in place with steering-wheel mounted controls.
Hipsters could also, theoretically, mount them to their bicycles or wear the control as a ring.
