Toyota President Akio Toyoda Lists His Favorite Non-Toyota Cars
In a rare bit of candit car-guy-ness, the head of Toyota, Akio Toyoda, has gone on record about his favorite Japanese non-Toyota cars. Toyoda is a sports car guy, a major backer of the GT 86/ FR-S/ BRZ rear-drive project, so it’s no surprise that most of his favorite cars are of the lightweight sporting variety.
Toyoda listed the Honda (Acura) NSX, the Nissan Skyline, Mazda Cosmo Sport, Mitsubishi Pajero and the Isuzu Bellett.
You’ll note that with the excption of the Mitsubishi, none of these cars are even remotely new. Perhaps this is a subtle jab at other carmakers not following Toyota down the road of lightweight, rear-drive performance cars, or perhaps it’s just that Toyoda, like most of us, prefers cars that are simple, honest and involving.
Previously Hundai CEO John Krafcik has admitted to not just liking, but owning and driving a Caterham Super 7 and a 997 Porsche 911.
