Sergio Pininfarina Dies at 85
One of the giants in Ferrari design has died, as Pininfarina has announced that its long-time chief Sergio Pininfarina passed away overnight at his home in Turin, Italy. He was 85.
Trained as a designer, Pininfarina (left) took over the family design firm in 1966 and remained at the helm until 2006 (and he was still honorary chairman at the time of his death). As such, he influenced the design of pretty much every Ferrari of the last 50 years, along with a wide-ranging assortment of other cars, including the Cadillac Allante, countless Peugeot sedans and even a few Daewoos. Of course, it’s names like 250 GT, Dino, Daytona, Testarossa and Quattroporte that people will remember.
